The Magic of Magic

In Blog by Roberto Forzoni

Magic has been my passion since I was twelve years old when a magician not only showed me a card effect but explained how he did it. I ended up showing everyone I could that effect for the next two years! I then went to the local library and took out the only two magic books they had. And there began my lifelong passion for magic, and seeing firsthand the impact magic can have on people’s lives.

Growing up being able to do magic helped me get invited to parties! But genuinely, cards allowed me to give people a fun experience, and connect with people on a real, nice level. It became a quest that every person I would approach, I would want to give them something to take away – a fun, incredible, exclusive experience. It’s all about fun for me – and giving that to other people.

My ‘why’ is that I believe magic brings out a lost child within us all, and I think that whatever is going on in your life, magic allows an escape. The times I’ve been at a show, and someone has told me they’ve had a bad week, magic allows me to give that person laughter and pure joy, even if just for those five minutes.

Magic has always been about what I can give to others. I walk into The Ned, and I think I’ve got to make sure everyone here has the best experience. I want them to go away having experienced something they didn’t expect because it was so engaging, unique, and fun. There are not many forms of entertainment that can be truly unexpected. But mind-reading and magic can.

What makes working as a magician an absolute delight is when I get the opportunity to meet the same people years later and they still remember a certain effect. Also coming out of a day of performing, having entertained a few hundred people, and people still asking you to stay and continue, is a real reflection of how many people enjoy magic.

I have worked as The Ned’s resident magician and mind-reader for over five years, and I absolutely love it. It’s the people who work there who are the heartbeat of the venue. I love the staff; they treat you like family. The Ned offers a unique experience, not only with the diversity of the restaurants, bars, and facilities, including a super rooftop terrace with a swimming pool. But it’s the diversity of people that go there, a safe place for everyone regardless of identity.

Being a magician, for me, is being able to create a special moment that people will remember for years, if not forever.
